Water Distribution

Water Supply System – Treatment Distribution

The City of Higginsville’s water supply system has been in continuous operation since 1894. The system is community owned and operated and currently serves more than 2000 customers in and around the city limits of Higginsville and contributes additionally to approximately 7000 customers through wholesale sales to area public water supply systems, and the small neighboring cities of Mayview, Corder, and Alma.

Mission Statement:

“Our mission is to provide our community with an adequate and reliable supply of potable water, exceeding governing drinking water standards, at the lowest reasonable cost.”

The potable water supply utility is governed by the City,  the Mayor, and the Board of Aldermen and is under the direction of City Administrator Jeanette Dobson and Water / Wastewater Superintendent Brandon Craig.

This system consists of two basic component systems: water supply/treatment, and water service distribution.

Ø  Treated Water Distribution

·        Distribution

The water distribution system consists of 35 miles of distribution piping of various sizes. It delivers water service to the entire community and some territory customers outside the city limits. It also provides for fire protection within the city corporate limits.

·        Storage

This system is connected to three water storage tanks, two 500,000-gallon capacity and one 100,000-gallon capacity. A pipeline routed along Missouri Highway 13 delivers water from the City’s distribution system approximately four miles south to the pedosphere style elevated storage tank at the I-70 interchange with Highway 13. A pump station along Highway 13 ensures reliable service and fire flow protection pressure for the I-70 junction area.

·        The Water Treatment Distribution Department crews work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. and provides after-hours service with a two-man crew on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
