The Water Department's 2.5 million-gallon per day state of the art Water Treatment Plant produces a potable drinking water supply with a quality that is second to none. The system provides potable drinking water for the citizens of Higginsvillle, three other communities and a rural water district. It also has enough excess capacity to meet the needs of new large industrial customers.
The City Lake provides many hours of relaxation and fine fishing to the public and ample water supply during normal rainfall periods. A pipeline to the city owned pumping station 11 miles away on the Missouri River supplies backup capacity during dry seasons. The distribution system is continuously being upgraded to ensure reliable flows and adequate pressure. Increased elevated storage allows for growth well into the 21st century.
