Police Officer Recruiting Information

To be a commissioned police officer for the Higginsville Police Department, you need to be a dedicated individual of good character with strong communication skills. You must also meet the following basic requirements:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen (Birth or Naturalized) Must be at least 21 years of age at time of application
  2. Must be a High School Graduate (or G.E.D.)
  3. Must have a current and valid Missouri Driver’s License
  4. Must not have been convicted at any time of a felony offense
  5. Must not be prohibited from carrying a firearm
  6. Must be eligible for Missouri Licensing as a Peace Officer (prior academy training and experience desirable).

Reserve Police Officer and Reserve Dispatchers

The City of Higginsville Police Department maintains a reserve police officer force.  Each reserve police officer is required to be a certified Missouri peace officer and maintain current Missouri POST continuing education training.  A City of Higginsville reserve police officer is paid at a rate of 80% the base full time police officers pay.

The City of Higginsville Police Department maintains reserve dispatch employees.  Each reserve dispatcher should be Missouri State Highway Patrol MULES certified and able to operate radio and phone equipment.  A City of Higginsville reserve dispatcher is paid at a rate of 80% the base full time dispatchers pay.

Basic Application Process

  1. Application Submission (applications available at City Hall).
  2. Completed applications must be turned in to the City Administrator’s Office.
  3. Written Test
  4. Oral Interview
  5. Background Investigation
  6. Physical
  7. Drug Screen

An applicant must successfully complete all the phases of the hiring process to be eligible for a position with-in the department. A conditional offer will be given prior to the physical and drug screen. Successful completion of these must be attained prior to a permanent offer of employment.

Participation in the hiring process does not guarantee a position with the Department.
