Throughout the year there are various programs sponsored by the street department. Some of these are directly beneficial to the residents and some are beneficial to residents and visitors.
Compost Area
The compost area located inside the Street Department grounds (107 East 22nd Street) will open the second Saturday of April from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Citizens may bring all composting items during these times and dump in the designated areas. Any tree trimmings larger than 2 inches in diameter or longer than 6 feet will not be accepted. All bagged leaves or trimmings shall be removed from the containers by the citizens and disposed of properly. The compost area will remain open every second and fourth Saturday at the above times, beginning in April through October.
Special Note: This compost program is intended for the individual citizens only. No commercial trimmings will be accepted.
Solid Waste
The present solid waste provider for the City of Higginsville is RTS Waste Service, LLC. Trash items are picked up once a week. For questions concerning the day your trash will be picked up, please call City Hall at 660-584-2106.
Christmas Tree Pickup
The first week of January is the time when residents may place their Christmas trees near the curbing. The Street Department crews will pick up the trees. The exact date will be determined and found on the calendar.
